Create Blog Titles: Generate All Your Titles for a Whole Year in a Single Afternoon

Something that has always fascinated me is blog titles or newsletter subject lines. Sometimes, they didn’t grab me at all. However, other times I came across a title so clever that I couldn’t resist clicking on it.
Then I would wonder: what is it about these blog titles that makes them so engaging? How do people come up with them? And, most importantly, how could I do the same for my own content?
After trying different tricks and techniques, I developed my own method. And the best part is that it’s not just useful for writing a single great title now and then. It also allows you to create dozens of blog titles at once—enough to fill your content calendar for an entire year.
How to Come Up with Blog Title Ideas

When you sit in front of a blank page, the first thought that usually comes to mind is: where do I even get ideas?
Luckily, there are very simple resources that can help you find inspiration.
- For example, Google is a great starting point. Type in your keyword and check the suggestions. Also, look at the related searches at the bottom of the page. All of this gives you clues about what people are really searching for.
- Other blogs or newsletters can also inspire you. Notice which ones grab your attention and which don’t. That said, it’s not about copying. It’s about understanding what works and adapting it to your style and audience.
Now, here’s something important you need to understand. Nowadays, there are millions of articles about almost any topic. So if you create one more title, even if it’s good, but identical to others… it will go unnoticed.
To avoid this, always add your own personal touch. Use your brand’s unique tone and be as specific as possible.
For example, instead of “How to Take Better Photos,” try “How to Take Photos with Natural Light in Small Interiors.” The second is more concrete. It also connects better with a real-life situation and has more chances of attracting clicks.
Do It Strategically (Not Just with Inspiration)
Besides seeking inspiration, it’s wise to take a more strategic step.
Specifically, you should check which keywords your potential clients are searching for. In other words, what your audience is looking for and how they search for it.
Tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ubersuggest, or browser extensions like Keyword Surfer or Keywords Everywhere can help.
Thanks to them, you can discover terms with real searches and low competition.
At this stage, it’s still not about creating your blog titles. First, you need to understand the landscape.
If you know what your audience is searching for and the phrases they use, you’ll have a much stronger foundation. This way, you avoid creating content that, while interesting to you, nobody is searching for.
In short, the key is to combine what you want to share with what your audience needs to find.
Tricks to Inspire You and Create Curiosity
A good title shouldn’t give everything away. Instead, it should spark enough curiosity that someone wants to read more.
For example:
- Turn your experience into a title: “What I Learned After…” or “What I Would Do Differently if I Started Again…”
- Use numbers. They promise clarity and structure. Example: “7 Ways to Improve Your Website Without Spending More Money.”
- Contradict the obvious. An unexpected twist engages readers. Example: “Why You Shouldn’t Post on Social Media Every Day.”
- Ask questions. They can be open-ended (“What Really Makes a Website Effective?”) or closed (“Have You Already Made This Mistake on Your Website?”).
- Finally, play with emotion. Titles that inspire, surprise, or provoke tend to stand out much more.
The Method to Create Blog Titles for a Whole Year
Now comes the practical part. I propose a simple but very powerful exercise: focus on quantity before quality. (Yes, this time it’s the other way around 😉).
Why? Because the first ideas are almost always the most obvious. Your brain starts by giving you what’s easiest, the typical ideas. But when you force yourself to generate more, new, original, and creative connections begin to emerge.
This is called the rule of thirds:
- The first 33% of your ideas will be the expected, generic ones.
- The second 33% starts to get more interesting.
- The last 33% contains the gems: the titles that really stand out.
And this is where what I call the “Create and Discard” method comes in. It’s not about keeping everything you write. It’s about creating a lot, without filtering, and then discarding the weaker ones until you’re left with the best. It’s during this refinement process that the truly good titles appear.

Step by Step: The “Create and Discard” Method
Before you start writing titles, first define the 3 or 4 main blocks for your content. Think of them as big categories. For example, a cooking blog might have: quick recipes, organization hacks, useful utensils, and healthy eating.
Within each block, do a small brainstorming session for more specific topics. Like “5-ingredient dinners” or “ideas for packed lunches.” This way, you’ll have a clear map of the content you want to develop over the year.
Now, prepare a good coffee and a snack, because here comes the best part:
- For each main block, write 10 possible titles at once—the first ones that come to mind. Even if some seem bad or repetitive, put them on the list without judging.
- Review the 30–40 titles you’ve generated and discard the 10 worst. Which are the worst? Those that sound too generic, that you’ve seen a thousand times, or that don’t generate curiosity or add anything new.
- Repeat this process (steps 1 and 2) five more times. Even if it feels like you have no new ideas, keep going. That’s when your creativity really starts to activate. It will make your brain start connecting things differently, producing more original and better titles than the first ones.
- By the end, you’ll have over 100 titles created. Finally, discard half of them. You’ll be left with around 50 high-quality titles ready to use directly on your blog or newsletter.
👉 If you publish once a week, these 50 titles will cover almost an entire year of content.
